🙏🏾Prayer Point: “Father, help us to forgive our offenders.”
📖Scripture: “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” – Matthew 6:14 (NIV)
We open ourselves up to healing and freedom that can only be found in God’s grace as we forgive those who have wronged us. Forgiveness is a powerful act of grace that reflects God’s heart. Let us pray today that the Lord may give us the strength to forgive, just as He has forgiven us. Let us release all bitterness and embrace His peace by allowing our hearts to be softened and our spirits to be aligned with His will.
📍 Acknowledge the Hurt
- Scripture: Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
- Action: Be honest with God about the pain that has been caused by the offense. Recognize and acknowledge the pain caused by the offense.
📍 Pray for Strength and Guidance
- Scripture: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
- Action: In prayer, ask God to guide you through the process of forgiveness. Ask for the grace to forgive, as it isn’t always easy.
📍 Remember God’s Forgiveness Towards You
- Scripture: Ephesians 4:32 – “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
- Action: Let this reflection soften your heart towards the offender as you reflect on how God has forgiven you.
📍 Release the Offender to God
- Scripture: Romans 12:19 – “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
- Action: Verbally release the person who hurt you to God. Say, “I release [Name] to You, Lord. I trust You to deal with them as You see fit.”
📍 Choose to Forgive
- Scripture: Matthew 6:14-15 – “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
- Action: The decision to forgive is the key, not the feelings. Be willing to forgive, regardless of whether you feel forgiven. You will feel forgiven when you have the feelings.
📍 Bless the Offender
- Scripture: Luke 6:27-28 – “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
- Action: You can break the bitterness of the offender by praying for them, asking God to bless them. This may be challenging, but it is a powerful step towards letting go of the bitterness.
📍 Seek Reconciliation if Possible
- Scripture: Romans 12:18 – “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
- Action: Consider reaching out to reconcile if it is safe and appropriate. This may not always be possible or wise, so seek God’s wisdom.
📍 Practice Continuous Forgiveness
- Scripture: Matthew 18:21-22 – “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'”
- Action: Forgiveness may need to be a repeated action, especially if the hurt resurfaces. Continue to forgive as often as needed.
📍 Trust God for Healing
- Scripture: Jeremiah 30:17 – “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord.”
- Action: As you forgive, God restores peace to your heart and heals your heart.
📍 Live in Freedom
- Scripture: Galatians 5:1 – “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
- Action: Live in the freedom that God has given you through forgiveness. Don’t let the offense burden you any longer. Live in the freedom Christ has given you.
